Deputy Chief Risk Officer
Our client, a growing publicly traded bank based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is hiring a Deputy Chief Risk Officer to help lead its Enterprise Risk Management function through an active period of growth and acquisition. This is a newly created executive role with a direct path to Chief Risk Officer.
If you've built your career leading enterprise risk at a $10 billion-plus financial institution and you're ready for the next step, this is a rare opportunity to step into a true second-in-command role with a bank that's scaling fast.
About the Role
The Deputy Chief Risk Officer will manage the day-to-day operations of the Risk organization, giving the Chief Risk Officer room to focus on strategy, the Board, and acquisition activity. You'll lead a team and oversee a broader risk organization, with responsibility across every major enterprise risk discipline: risk governance, risk assessments, Model Risk, Third-Party Risk, Data Governance, and Business Continuity.
This role is built for someone who has already led enterprise-wide risk at scale, not a specialist in a single discipline like Compliance, Internal Audit, Credit Risk, or BSA/AML.
What You'll Do
- Support the CRO in the tactical and strategic management of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program
- Lead the annual Risk Assessment Program, including risk appetite development with the Board
- Own Key Risk Indicator development, monitoring, and executive-level risk reporting
- Direct policy development and regulatory exam readiness across the Risk function
- Evaluate risk during acquisitions and lead integration planning as the bank grows
- Oversee Model Risk Management, Third-Party Risk, Data Governance, and Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery
- Step in as Chief Risk Officer when authority is delegated
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of progressive risk management experience in banking or financial services
- Enterprise risk leadership from a $10 billion+ institution with a mature ERM framework
- Broad experience across multiple risk disciplines, not a single functional background
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA, FRM, PRM, CRCM, or CRC designation a plus
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership and the Board
Why This Role
- Succession path and mentorship with a CRO with extensive banking experience
- Growth through an active acquisition strategy
- Real impact shaping the Enterprise Risk Management framework
- Strong, executive-visible culture
