Director of Logistics

Position Summary

The Director of Logistics is responsible for leading and optimizing all transportation and shipping operations to ensure cost efficiency, service reliability, and operational excellence. This role partners closely with Operations, Finance, IT, and third-party logistics providers (3PLs) to drive strategic initiatives, improve performance, and enhance logistics systems. This is a high-impact leadership role requiring strong analytical capabilities, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams.

Education & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field required.

  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in logistics or supply chain management.

  • Global Trade: Experience with international shipping and import processes preferred.

  • Track Record: Proven history of improving logistics cost efficiency and operational performance.

Core Competencies

  • Advanced analytical skills with strong proficiency in Excel; Power BI experience preferred.

  • Experience working with mid-to-large ERP systems.

  • Expertise in logistics optimization, network planning, and cost control.

  • Strong business acumen with data-driven decision-making capabilities.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Project management and process improvement expertise.

  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Job Duties

  • Partner with internal logistics leadership, 3PL providers, and carriers to ensure the best shipping rates possible.

  • Evaluate shipments for accuracy regarding shipment, rating, billing, and other key characteristics.

  • Evaluate shipments, flag those that do not meet established thresholds, and review them with internal executive leadership.

  • Evaluate opportunities to systemically improve shipping efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Develop performance and operational reports for executive and divisional leadership.

  • Make data-driven recommendations for and implement process improvements.

Work Environment

  • Location: On-site position based near Florence, AL.

  • Hours: Standard business hours (Monday–Friday), with additional time as needed to support operations.

  • Physical Requirements: Office-based role with occasional light physical activity (up to 20 lbs.).

  • Presence: Must be present in the office to perform core duties.
