Commodity Manager
The Commodity Manager is a leadership role that oversees grain procurement, executes commodity strategies, and manages company risk. This position directly influences profitability, compliance, and growth by aligning operations with market trends and company goals.
Principal Duties/Responsibilities
1. Lead grain origination programs to minimize basis adjustments and engage farmers through innovative marketing
2. Manage long/short commodity positions, corn basis adjustments, and deferred cash bids
3. Identify and secure new corn purchasing opportunities
4. Develop additional ethanol market opportunities and manage wetcake marketing strategies.
5. Oversee carbon reduction initiatives and broader regulatory compliance, ensuring alignments with industry standards and company goals
6. Adhere strictly to the company’s Risk Management Policy, using approved tools and strategies to safeguard margins and mitigate exposure to market volatility.
7. Prepare and present detailed monthly reports, including commodity positions, risks, and trends, for board meetings to support strategic decision-making.
8. Optimize inventories for all commodities, including railcars, ensuring efficient operations and alignment with company objectives.
9. Manage and oversee the sales of ethanol, wetcake, and DDGS to maximize returns.
10. Stay informed of market trends by attending relevant conferences, workshops, and industry events as needed.
11. Consult with participating brokers to analyze commodity trends and inform procurement strategies.
12. Other duties as assigned
Education & Experience Requirements
· To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position along with effective oral and written communication skills and excellent intrapersonal skills.
· B.S. or greater in Ag-Business, Marketing or other formal training is preferred. Seven years experience working within the grain marketing industry is necessary. Formal education requirement can be offset with relevant industry experience.
· Strong analytical, Excel, and PowerPoint skills; detail-oriented problem solver
· Effective Communicator with the ability to perform under pressure

Working environment:
a. This position operates in an office environment on a computer
b. The position is largely self-directed and requires understanding of company policy, procedures and values
c. Some travel within the market/trade territory to make visits with customers will be required
