Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist with deep Paylocity expertise to support and optimize payroll operations for a growing, multi-state organization of approximately 700 employees.
This role is ideal for someone who not only executes payroll accurately, but also brings a process improvement mindset, ensuring systems, codes, and compliance structures are clean, scalable, and audit-ready.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations

Process payroll for ~700 employees across multiple states

Manage a large population of non-exempt employees

Ensure accurate payroll calculations including earnings, deductions, and 401(k) contributions
-
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
Paylocity Administration & Optimization
-
Serve as the internal expert on Paylocity (no learning curve expected)

Implement efficiencies such as batch uploads and automation
-
Maintain and enhance payroll workflows and system configurations
Compliance & Reporting
-
Ensure compliance with complex multi-state requirements, including:

State leave laws and paid family leave programs
-
California pay data reporting
-
Illinois Equal Pay reporting
-
Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reporting

Audit & Process Improvement
-
Audit and clean up payroll data, including:
-
Employee classifications and job titles
-
Workers’ compensation codes
-
Payroll earning and deduction codes
-

Ensure payroll aligns correctly with the general ledger and benefits calculations
-
Identify and proactively address downstream impacts of payroll changes
Qualifications
Required
-
7+ years of payroll experience
-
Advanced, hands-on Paylocity expertise (no ramp-up time)
-
Experience managing multi-state payroll environments
-
Strong knowledge of payroll compliance and regulatory requirements
-
Experience supporting large, non-exempt employee populations
Preferred
-
Experience in healthcare or multi-location organizations
-
Background in payroll audits and process improvements

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
