Location: Hartford and/or Stamford, CT

Hybrid: 4 days in office (initially)

Our client, a national leader in title and escrow services, is seeking experienced Senior Underwriting Counsels to join its Agency Division in Hartford, Connecticut and Stamford, Connecticut. These hybrid roles offers the opportunity to serve as a trusted legal advisor on complex commercial real estate title insurance matters, providing underwriting guidance, risk analysis, and transactional support to internal teams, agents, and customers.

The positions are ideal for a seasoned attorney who brings deep knowledge of real estate law, title underwriting, and regulatory compliance, along with a collaborative and solutions‑oriented mindset. The successful candidates will bring strong judgment, customer-centric communication skills, and the ability to manage a diverse pipeline of commercial transactions while applying underwriting standards and company guidelines.

 


 

Candidate Profile

  • JD from an ABA-accredited law school required.
  • Active Bar Admission in Connecticut, in good standing.
  • 5+ years of substantive experience in title insurance underwriting or comparable commercial real estate experience in a law firm setting.
  • General understanding of the process of underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policies.
  • Ability to interpret and apply underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits
  • Solid understanding of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of NH real estate transactions, title and settlement processes.
  • Must be familiar with applicable real estate law, including federal and state regulations.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders and externally, with clients and others.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage significant transaction volume, ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow up in a timely manner.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Effective communicator with strong negotiation skills, who can deliver guidance with clarity, professionalism, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, with the ability to assess risk and provide practical solutions.
  • Collaborative mindset with ability to act decisively when needed.
  • Creative, solution-oriented approach to resolving complex title challenges.
  • Ability to work hybrid 4 days a week office, initially. 

 


 

What You’ll Do

  • Provide underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel, agents, and customers, related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies.
  • Utilize underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits to underwrite the issuance of title insurance.
  • Provide guidance to company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement services.
  • Issue underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes.
  • Prepare and present educational content (in-person and/or remote) for the benefit of company personnel, agents and/or customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $130,000 – $215,000+ This hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting. Pay is based on a number of factors which may include job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements, qualifications, and geographic location.
