Project Manager/Sales Engineer MEP
POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Manager / Sales Engineer is a hybrid role combining hands-on technical project delivery with business development and revenue growth for the company. This position is the primary point-person responsible for planning, executing, and delivering mechanical and plumbing projects on time, within budget, and in accordance with specifications and quoted requirements, while also driving new business, building long-term client relationships, and preparing accurate proposals for mechanical services projects (HVAC, piping, and plumbing). This role combines technical project management expertise with business development acumen to position the company as a trusted partner across industrial, commercial, and institutional markets, while ensuring efficient delivery of project deliverables, effective quality control, clear communication of expectations to stakeholders, and upward reporting to senior management throughout each project's lifecycle.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Project Management & Delivery
• Manage and oversee mechanical and plumbing projects of various sizes and complexity
• Analyze project design proposals, quoted proposals, and/or specifications to determine cost-effective solutions
• Lead a project team to ensure technical accuracy and professional quality of all project deliverables
• Manage project activities throughout the project lifecycle, including allocation of resources, documentation, and scheduling
• Maintain project schedules and cost summaries to track work progress, budget status, and manpower resource utilization
• Visit project sites once under construction to provide quality and cost control during the construction process
• Escalate and identify the need for additional resources; assist with shop drawing reviews as required
• Provide mentoring to technical staff and foremen, assigning duties as required
Revenue Growth & Business Development
• Achieve quarterly revenue targets through upselling, cross-selling, and new client acquisition
• Develop and execute a sales growth strategy aligned with company revenue and profitability goals
• Identify and target new markets and clients to expand the company’s footprint
• Foster new business development opportunities; maintain and grow current business and client relationships
• Research, qualify, and pursue opportunities in target industrial, commercial, and institutional markets
• Build and manage a robust sales pipeline, providing regular activity, sales updates, and conversion reports
Client Relationship Management
• Act as primary relationship manager for new and existing key accounts, ensuring satisfaction, retention, and repeat business
• Conduct regular client business reviews to uncover client needs and present tailored solutions
• Represent the company at trade shows, industry events, and networking forums to build brand visibility and credibility
• Work with clients and employees to deliver the end project, clearly communicating expectations to all stakeholders
Estimating & Proposal Development
• Prepare and review project requirements and specifications, along with accurate, competitive estimates and proposals for mechanical scopes (HVAC, piping, and plumbing)
• Partner with the estimating team to ensure pricing accuracy, competitiveness, and profitability
• Customize proposals to highlight value-added solutions and differentiators
• Secure management approval prior to delivering estimates and proposals to clients
Collaboration & Team Support
• Work closely with estimating, operations, and finance to ensure smooth project handoffs and clear lines of communication
• Provide sales forecasts, market insights, and upward reporting on project and manpower status to senior management
Performance Metrics & Accountability
• Track and report KPIs including revenue growth, pipeline health, win rates, customer retention, and project cost/schedule performance
• Monitor client satisfaction and ensure both technical and service excellence
• Continuously improve sales and project management processes using CRM tools, analytics, and established project management methods
• Participate in scheduled performance reviews (e.g., 30/60/90/120-day) to assess project progress and individual performance
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
• 10+ years of industry-related experience, and/or a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field (preferred)
• Proven track record of success in mechanical services project delivery and/or sales (HVAC, piping, plumbing, or related)
• Experience and understanding of HVAC, process piping, and plumbing systems
• Strong understanding of project contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers
• Mechanical and electrical coordination experience
• Construction experience will be considered an asset
• Demonstrated success in project delivery, execution of project management methods, and business development

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Work is performed in a combination of office, remote, client-site, and active construction environments
• Frequent travel to client sites, project locations, and industry events is required (up to 50%)
• Regular use of computers, phones, and standard office equipment
• Ability to sit for extended periods while preparing estimates, proposals, schedules, or reports
• Occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting of up to 25 pounds when reviewing job sites, project materials, or trade show displays
• Must be able to safely navigate construction and mechanical service environments, including uneven surfaces, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions
• Requires clear vision and hearing to communicate effectively, review drawings/specifications, and conduct presentations
