Job Description: Medical Receptionist – Float Pool

Location: Various Clinics throughout Genesee, Oakland, Saginaw, and Lapeer Counties.

Employment Type: Full-Time, Part-Time, Flex

Reports To: Float Pool Supervisor

Role Overview

We are seeking an adaptable, high-energy Medical Receptionist to join our Float Pool. This is a dynamic role designed for a professional who thrives on variety and excels at being the "face" of the clinic across different medical specialties and environments.

As a Float Pool Medical Receptionist, you will provide essential front-office support to various primary care and specialty clinics within our network. You will be the "bridge" that ensures patient flow remains seamless and the front desk stays organized when permanent staff are on leave or during high-volume periods. There are also opportunities to transition to a permanent role in a single office full-time when the need arises.

Key Responsibilities

Front Office Duties:

  • Patient Intake: Greeting patients warmly, checking them in/out, verifying identity, and updating demographic information in the EMR.

  • Scheduling: Managing complex provider calendars, booking appointments, and handling cancellations or rescheduling.

  • Insurance & Billing: Verifying insurance eligibility, obtaining necessary authorizations, and collecting co-pays or outstanding balances.

  • Phone Management: Directing a high volume of incoming calls to the appropriate department, taking detailed messages, and answering general inquiries.

Administrative Duties:

  • Patient Records: Scanning medical documents into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and ensuring patient charts are accurate and up-to-date.

  • Coordination: Managing referrals, processing medical record requests, and coordinating with clinical staff to ensure efficient patient flow.

  • Workspace Maintenance: Keeping the waiting room and reception area professional, clean, and welcoming.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of medical office or customer service experience is preferred, but we are willing to train highly motivated candidates with strong administrative skills.

  • Tech Savvy: Ability to quickly learn new software and workflows. Epic EMR experience is a significant plus.

  • Mobility: Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license, as daily travel to different sites within your assigned region is required.

  • Adaptability: A positive attitude and the ability to integrate into different team cultures on short notice.

Why Join the Float Pool?

  • Diverse Experience: Gain exposure to multiple specialties (Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, OB/GYN, etc.) in a single role.

  • Networking: Build relationships with providers and administrative leaders across four counties.

  • Competitive Compensation: Float pool positions often include a travel stipend or a higher base hourly rate to account for the flexibility required.

  • Free Training: Comprehensive training on our EMR system (Epic).
