Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

Location: Fresno, CA

Salary: $165K to $250K+ Bonus + Stock Options+ Paid Relocation

Our Joint Commission-accredited surgical facility in Fresno, CA, is seeking a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to lead our dedicated nursing and clinical teams. With 5 state-of-the-art operating rooms, we specialize in advanced Spine and Joint Replacement procedures, offering an exciting environment for a visionary CNO.

About the Role

As the CNO, you will be responsible for the comprehensive management of all nursing service departments and other clinical areas within the hospital. You will be the driving force behind the quality of patient care, ensuring that our services are delivered by a team of highly skilled and properly prepared personnel. This role is pivotal in upholding our hospital's mission, vision, and strategic goals, particularly for our Surgical Institute of Reading.

You'll identify and implement cost-effective systems that support our operations, considering industry trends, resource availability, and evolving patient needs. Establishing and nurturing strong relationships with patients, physicians, employees, volunteers, and vendors will be key to your success. You will also be instrumental in continuous performance improvement initiatives, working collaboratively with Senior Management to achieve facility-wide objectives. A critical aspect of this role involves developing, directing, and ensuring compliance with Standards of Practice that promote optimal healthcare delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Planning & Development: Develop and implement hospital-wide plans for nursing care, patient care programs, policies, and procedures that align with patient needs and our hospital's mission.
  • Personnel Management: Oversee work schedules, assignments, and staffing levels across all nursing units to ensure appropriate personnel are available to provide quality care. This includes developing staffing plans for all nursing units and service lines.
  • Administrative Oversight: Serve as a vital administrative resource for clinical directors/coordinators on policy and procedure development, budget preparation, personnel functions (evaluations, grievances), and clinical service performance improvement.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Actively participate in Medical Staff and Medical Executive Committees, and hospital Board meetings to plan, promote, and conduct organizational performance improvement activities. You will collaborate with the governing body, management team, medical staff, and clinical areas to develop, implement, and evaluate the hospital’s strategic plan, budgets, resource allocation, and operational policies.
  • Performance Improvement: Implement an effective, ongoing evaluation process for patient care to ensure continuous improvement as part of the hospital-wide Performance Improvement process. This includes ensuring nursing processes are continuous and nursing standards are consistent with current research and national professional standards.
  • Budget Management: Develop, present, and manage the nursing services' portion of the hospital's budget.
  • Professional Development: Stay informed and up-to-date in all aspects of nursing care and management through literature, workshops, seminars, courses, and conferences with other Chief Nursing Officers.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
  • Strongly Preferred: Master’s Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration.

Certifications/Licensure:

  • Active and current California Registered Nurse (RN) license.

Specific Job Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive management experience in a hospital environment as a Director of multiple, complex nursing departments.
  • Previous experience as a CNO is preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience in a surgical hospital is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated competence in management and leadership skills, with the ability to develop and implement organizational strategies that improve patient care delivery.
  • Maintain current knowledge of and adherence to appropriate regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, Medicare, Medicaid, Board of Nurse Examiners).
  • Knowledgeable of social, economic, and legal issues affecting healthcare systems, with a proactive approach to keeping staff informed on current healthcare practices.
