Position Summary:

Seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Director of Medical Staff Services to lead and oversee our Medical Staff Services department. This critical role is responsible for ensuring the efficient and compliant credentialing, privileging, and ongoing monitoring of our esteemed physicians and allied health professionals across our facility/facilities. The Director will play a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and quality care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Medical Staff Services department, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, accreditation standards (e.g., The Joint Commission), and organizational policies.
  • Manage and direct all aspects of the credentialing and re-credentialing processes, including application review, primary source verification, and the development of professional practice profiles.
  • Oversee the granting and renewal of clinical privileges, ensuring alignment with individual qualifications, experience, and organizational needs.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical staff records, databases, and credentialing files.
  • Serve as a key resource and point of contact for medical staff members regarding credentialing, privileging, and medical staff bylaws.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Chief of Staff, Chief Medical Officer, medical staff leadership, and other departments to ensure a smooth and efficient medical staff process.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of [Number] Credentialing Specialists, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures related to medical staff services.
  • Stay abreast of current trends, regulations, and best practices in medical staff services and credentialing.
  • Participate in medical staff committees and meetings as required.
  • Manage the department budget effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with the Health Care Quality Improvement Act (HCQIA) and other relevant legislation.

Qualifications:

Minimum Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Master's degree in healthcare administration or a related field.

Required Licensure/Certification:

  • Dual certification by the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) as a Certified Professional Medical Staff Management (CPMSM) and a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS).

Minimum Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in managing a credentials verification office and/or a Medical Staff Services department within a healthcare setting.

Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of medical staff credentialing, privileging, and peer review processes.
  • Strong understanding of relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accreditation standards.
  • Excellent leadership, management, and team-building skills.
  • Exceptional organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Outstanding communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using credentialing software and other relevant technology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
