Construction Engineering Director / Temporary Works
Construction Engineering Director / Temporary Works
— relocation assistance available.
Falsework, shoring, erection plans, heavy lift. There's a team already doing this work, and real backlog behind it. What's missing is the person to lead it.
A growing engineering group in the Charlotte market is bringing on a director to take the reins of its construction engineering and temporary works practice. You'd step into an established team and an active book of work — this is a practice to lead and grow.
The work is bridge and heavy civil: falsework and shoring design, erection engineering, demolition engineering, heavy lift, work trestles, temporary structures. The kind of engineering design that gets built, not just stamped.
Why this role stands out:
- You inherit a working team and real backlog — the runway is there from day one
- You become the technical authority for the practice, with the standards and direction yours to set
- Room to grow the group and the client base as the practice expands
- Close to the field, close to the people building the work, and close to the decisions
- A seat at the table on where the broader organization goes next
- Relocation support available for the right person
- Salary range $185,000 - $200,000. (Range reflects the target band for this role. Compensation for an exceptional candidate is negotiable above it.)
What you'll be doing:
- Act as the final technical voice on falsework, shoring, erection, and heavy lift questions across the organization
- Lead, mentor, and grow the engineering team
- Work shoulder to shoulder with field leadership to solve problems that come up mid-build
- Set the design standards, procedures, and quality bar the practice runs on
- Oversee delivery on complex construction engineering work across multiple regions
- Keep an eye on the business side: staffing, workload, utilization, and margin
- Help win the work — client conversations, proposals, and positioning
About you:
- PE license
- You've spent years being the person others bring the hard problems to
- A decade or more designing falsework, shoring, erection schemes, demolition engineering, heavy lift, or temporary structures — whether or not you've ever called it "temporary works"
- Experience leading engineers, whether as a group manager, discipline lead, or senior technical authority
- A real feel for how contractors sequence and build work
- Experience building or growing a practice — or the ambition to do it for the first time
If you're ready to lead the practice rather than be the go-to engineer inside someone else's, let's talk.
