Manager – Business Development (M&A)

A leading global law firm is seeking a Manager – Business Development (M&A) to partner with senior lawyers and global BD teams in driving business development initiatives across M&A, Corporate Governance, Real Estate, Executive Compensation, and key industry sectors. The role will lead pitches, market research, client development efforts, and strategic initiatives while supporting the Firm’s visibility and growth.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the preparation of pitches, RFP responses, proposals, and other client-facing marketing materials.
  • Develop and execute business development initiatives with M&A and corporate practice partners.
  • Identify new business opportunities, referral sources, prospective clients, and strategic sponsorships.
  • Conduct research on companies and industries to support client development and practice positioning.
  • Oversee submissions to Chambers USA, league tables, legal directories, and other industry surveys.
  • Maintain and update practice materials, lawyer biographies, matter descriptions, and BD activity records.
  • Guide partners in prioritizing high-value business development opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior BD team members.
  • Coordinate with global BD teams to ensure consistent execution and information sharing.
  • Collaborate with Communications, Events, Competitive Intelligence, and Creative Services teams.
  • Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, information security, professionalism, and client service.

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years of business development experience in a law firm, financial institution, or professional services environment.
  • Prior experience supporting M&A or corporate practices in a top-tier U.S. law firm.
  • Strong business writing and presentation skills, with experience working with executive- and partner-level audiences.
  • Excellent writing, editing, analytical, research, and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple time-sensitive priorities.
  • Experience preparing pitches, proposals, directory submissions, and other partner- and client-facing materials.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, CRM, experience management, and research platforms.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with global teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and a polished professional presence.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; JD, MBA, or relevant graduate degree is a plus.
