Manager – Business Development

A leading global law firm is seeking a Manager – Business Development to support partners and business development teams in generating new business, strengthening client relationships, and expanding the Firm’s profile in the D.C. market and globally. This role will lead strategic initiatives, oversee pitches and marketing efforts, conduct market research, and collaborate with Communications, Events, Competitive Intelligence, Creative Services, and global BD teams.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and execute business development plans in partnership with senior lawyers.
- Identify new business opportunities, referral sources, prospective clients, and strategic sponsorships.
- Conduct research on companies, industries, litigation exposure, deal activity, and legal needs.
- Lead the preparation of pitches, RFP responses, and targeted marketing materials.
- Oversee submissions for Chambers USA and other legal directories.
- Maintain and update practice materials, lawyer biographies, CRM records, and business development activity.
- Provide regular updates to the Managing Partner on business development initiatives and opportunities.
- Guide partners in prioritizing high-value business development opportunities.
- Provide direction and supervision to junior BD team members supporting D.C. initiatives.
- Coordinate with global BD teams and collaborate with Communications, Events, Competitive Intelligence, and Creative Services.
- Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, information security, professionalism, and client service.
What You’ll Bring
- 7+ years of business development experience within a top-tier U.S. law firm, financial institution, or professional services firm.
- Strong understanding of the D.C. legal market and competitive legal landscape nationally and globally.
- Knowledge of litigation, financial services, and transactional terminology and processes.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; JD, MBA, or relevant graduate degree is a plus.
- Experience with business writing and presenting to executive- and partner-level audiences.
- Excellent writing, editing, analytical, research, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint, and related business applications.
- Ability to manage multiple time-sensitive priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and a polished, confident communication style.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a global team.
