Litigation Legal Assistant

 

A leading law firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant to support attorneys in its Newark, NJ office. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of law firm experience with a strong litigation background and be comfortable handling complex legal documents, court filings, trial preparation, and day-to-day administrative support. This is a great opportunity for a highly organized professional who can work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Provide daily administrative support, including calendar management, phone coverage, and incoming/outgoing mail.
  • Prepare, edit, and format legal documents in accordance with firm standards.
  • Handle document comparison, conversion, cleanup, and formatting using Litera Compare and related tools.
  • Prepare and submit electronic filings in Federal, State, and Bankruptcy Courts.
  • Assist with service of legal documents and maintain organized case files.
  • Prepare Tables of Authorities, Tables of Contents, hyperlinks, briefs, and bookmarked PDFs.
  • Enter and edit attorney time entries and assist with expense reports and billing activities.
  • Support attorneys with trial preparation, including organizing exhibits, preparing trial binders, and coordinating court appearance logistics.
  • Perform light paralegal duties and assist with lien-related matters.
  • Conduct non-legal research and coordinate travel and restaurant reservations.
  • Provide backup support to other Legal Assistants as needed.

 

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years of law firm experience, with a strong litigation background.
  • Experience with Federal, State, and Bankruptcy Court e-filing.
  • Strong knowledge of legal document preparation and litigation support.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, iManage, Kofax Power PDF, Best Authority, Intapp Time, Intapp Billstream, Litera Compare, BigHand, Zoom, and DocuSign.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work, prioritize competing deadlines, and work independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to work effectively with attorneys, staff, and clients.
  • Current Notary Public commission or willingness to obtain one within the first six months.
  • High School Diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
