Head of Research

Our client is expanding and seeks a Head of Research to serve as both a strategic partner and an operational anchor — driving the scientific vision of the R&D group while providing direct leadership to a team of research scientists.

The ideal candidate will take on the following tasks:

1. Serve as the lead with senior R&D leadership, with full accountability for day-to-day scientific direction and team performance.
2. Lead, mentor, and develop a team of twenty research scientists across molecular biology, assay development, nucleic acids research, and related disciplines.
3. Integrate computational chemistry and structural biology approaches to enhance research outcomes and accelerate discovery.
4. Drive the development and optimization of novel assays, with a consistent focus on innovation and differentiation.
5. Contribute to long-range R&D strategy, portfolio prioritization, and resource planning with a focus on diagnostics market opportunities.
6. Partner cross-functionally with Product Development, Commercialization, and Regulatory Affairs to translate research into market-ready diagnostic solutions.
7. Represent the R&D function at the senior leadership level and externally with key scientific and industry partners.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:

• 20+ years of progressive experience in molecular biology research, including significant time in a team leadership role.
• PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Structural Biology, or a related discipline required.
• Demonstrated success leading and developing scientific teams of twenty or more researchers.
• Evidence of applied strength in computational chemistry.
• Background or working knowledge in structural biology is strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with nucleic acid technologies, including DNA/RNA detection, amplification platforms, or oligonucleotide-based assay development, is preferred.
• Experience in the development of novel assays preferred.
• Track record of translating scientific innovation into commercial or clinical applications.
• Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage audiences from bench scientists to C-suite.
