Director of Electrical Engineering & Design

Boston, Massachusetts
Job TypeDirect Hire

Our client is a privately held data center operator in Boston. They are adding a Director of Electrical Engineering and Design, a new position, to expand what they can do internally. They will continue to work with outside design firms and consultants, and this position will manage them.

If you are on the consulting side, the difference is that the work does not leave when the drawings are issued. You set the electrical direction, you review equipment sizing and selection and carry submittals through approval, and you stay with the system while it is operating. Capacity studies, UPS and emergency power strategy, load coordination studies, and the department budget sit with this seat.

The facilities run high density GPU and AI deployments, including direct-to-chip cooling, alongside a mixed multi-tenant load. New tenant space design and branch circuit assignment are part of the ongoing work, and the position supports the construction management and A/E teams through design, construction, and closeout. The team is small and the position reports to the Executive Vice President.

A PE in electrical engineering is required. Ten or more years in colocation data center design, depth in mission critical electrical systems including medium and low voltage distribution, PDUs and grounding, and time managing technical leads and outside engineers.

The position is in the office in Boston, five days a week, and there is regular interaction with other disciplines and with executive leadership.

If you have been thinking about moving to the owner side, I would like to talk.
