Privately held manufacturer of water and wastewater process equipment is adding a Mechanical Design Engineer.  Degreed ME with about 3 to 4 years of SolidWorks (or similar) design experience.  $75,000 to $90,000 base, medical premiums paid 100% by the company for the individual and the family.  100% onsite in Morris County, NJ.  No relocation.

 

DESCRIPTION

 

THE OPPORTUNITY

A privately held New Jersey manufacturer of water and wastewater process equipment is adding a Mechanical Design Engineer to its team.  The company is growing, its order book is full, and it is deliberately moving more of its fabrication in house rather than subcontracting it out.  More work in house means more design, and this hire adds that capacity.

 

This is a design role, not a drafting role.  There is plenty of drawing, but the job is working out how something gets built.  Most of the work is conveyors, which are well understood.  The interesting part is the rest:  the company will take on equipment it has never built before, and this is the person who figures out how to make it.

 

It is also a role with a short line to the shop floor.  You design in SolidWorks, then go over the plans with the people who fabricate them, and you take their input when they see a better way to build it.  The designers who do well here like that back and forth.

 

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

- Design water and wastewater equipment in SolidWorks and produce the fabrication drawings the shop builds from.

- Work out how to build what the customer needs, including equipment the company has not made before.

- Carry conveyor designs, the bulk of the workload, from requirements through released drawings.

- Visit the company's nearby fabrication shop to review plans, check progress, and resolve build questions with the fabricators.

- Prepare drawings for outside fabricators, with the level of detail each one needs.

- Support the project engineer running each order with the design work that order requires.

- Get the details right before release, so equipment is built once and fits the first time.

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.  Required.

- 3 or 4 years of mechanical design experience.  A standout candidate with less will be considered.

- Proficient in SolidWorks.  It is the platform for all design and fabrication drawings.  

- Strong mechanical aptitude.  You can look at a need and work out how to build it, not just draw it.

- Accurate, detail-oriented drawing work, and comfortable talking a design through with the people who fabricate it.

- Local to northern New Jersey and able to work fully onsite in Morris County.  Relocation assistance is not offered.

- Strongly preferred:  experience designing conveyors or similar fabricated equipment.  A water and wastewater background is a plus, not required.

- Nice to have:  you enjoy design work and want to keep doing it, with room to grow from there.

 

WHAT IS ON OFFER

- Base salary of $75,000 to $90,000 depending on experience.

- Medical coverage with the premium paid 100% by the company, for the individual and for the family.  No employee contribution on the base plan.  A buy-up plan with lower deductibles is available.

An initial phone screen with the hiring contact, followed by an onsite interview with senior operations leadership and other members of the leadership team.  The company aims to complete the onsite in a single visit and to move quickly with the right person.
