Plastic Extrusion Tooling Designer – Custom Profile Specialist

Up to $90,000 • Sheboygan County Area • Direct Growth Path to Department Head • Onsite

The Opportunity: Step into a high-impact position within a growing, technology-forward manufacturer serving global clients across a diverse range of premium industries. Our client is an established, ISO-certified manufacturing leader built on total financial stability, a highly diversified customer base that protects against economic downturns, and a clean, modern facility where profits are consistently reinvested back into the shop floor.

  • EXPERIENCE DEPTH: 3+ years of dedicated plastic extrusion tooling design experience, with a heavy focus on custom profile extrusion, co-extrusion, and tri-extrusion
  • PROCESSING INSIGHT: 3+ years of practical, hands-on extrusion processing exposure (you must understand how the material flows and behaves in the machine, not just on a computer screen)
  • SOFTWARE FLUENCY: Advanced proficiency utilizing MasterCAM and/or Fusion 360 for high-performance tooling and die design architecture
  • LEADERSHIP TRAJECTORY: Built for a forward-thinking designer possessing the drive, communication skills, and technical credibility to rapidly transition into a Department Head leadership role
  • EARNING POTENTIAL: Up to $90,000 annual base salary (fully scaling with custom profile design depth) + Full Corporate Benefits Package
  • CULTURE METRIC: Exceptional, employee-friendly environment boasting an incredible 20-year average team tenure and high scheduling flexibility
  • COMPLIANCE: United States Citizens or Green Card holders only; corporate visa sponsorship and relocation assistance are not available

For a tool and die professional looking for a definitive, long-term career home, this direct-hire tracking opportunity provides a professional culture that is exceptionally rare in the manufacturing world. The organization completely rejects the chaotic, high-turnover environment of standard job shops, prioritizing professional respect and operational flexibility. Because they consistently modernize their fleet, you will always be working with the best design tools and machining technology available.

The immediate group is a tight-knit, collaborative division where your engineering expertise is highly visible and directly tied to new product launches. Instead of being pigeonholed into a single, repetitive product line, you will tackle a diverse portfolio of custom geometries and multi-material challenges. Backed by rock-solid corporate stability and a clear, structured succession plan directly into departmental management, this is a premium space to command your technical career.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Precision Die Design: Creating custom, complex plastic extrusion tooling designs specifically for intricate profiles, co-extrusions, and tri-extrusions.
  • Full Lifecycle Management: Directing complete tooling initiatives, from initial concepts and virtual modeling to building, modifying, installing, and maintaining custom production dies.
  • Production Floor Liaison: Providing direct technical support, troubleshooting logic, and manufacturing direction to toolmakers, machinists, and line operators to ensure flawless startup runs.
  • Hands-on Tool Tuning: Partnering closely with processing teams to adjust, sample, and fine-tune physical tooling components to lock in exacting customer specifications.
  • Continuous Improvement: Analyzing processing metrics and material flow characteristics to eliminate line scrap, optimize throughput speeds, and refine tooling geometry.
  • Digital Architecture: Maintaining and updating the corporate tooling database using Fusion 360 and MasterCAM to ensure perfect documentation controls.

What We Are Looking For

  • Extrusion Tooling Pedigree: A minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience drafting and engineering functional profile extrusion dies.
  • Material Literacy: A deep, physical understanding of polymer behavior, melt temperatures, and draw ratios to bridge the gap between design theory and floor production.
  • Software Mastery: Complete comfort developing toolpath logic or drafting geometric profiles using MasterCAM or Fusion 360.
  • Growth Mindset: A natural, self-directed professional who actively wants to mentor junior staff and step into department management as the veteran team transitions.
  • Professional Longevity: A stable, reliable employment history that shows commitment and professional growth across past organizations.
  • Location Proximity: Residing within a dependable, 45-minute daily driving radius of the Greater Kohler / Sheboygan, WI area.
