The Residential Therapist will work with and serve the therapeutic needs of the residents. This position must be an active member of and provide clinical support to the clinical treatment team within each unit. They will be responsible for providing consultation and clinical support to residents in care. Paperwork responsibilities include writing behavior support and individualized treatment plans in a timely and professional manner. Commitment to the agency's holistic approach for meeting the needs of youth and their families including physical, social, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs is essential.

EDUCATION

  1. Masters Degree in psychology, counseling, social work or related field from an accredited College or University AND hold a license in the in their respective field. (OR be in process of obtaining a license from the State of West Virginia.)
  2. A minimum of two years post-graduate experience in treating/supervising children with emotional/behavioral problems is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  4. Have the ability to make decisions consistent with agency policies and general philosophies of child care. Must be able to perform the functions of this job both independently and as part of a clinical treatment team.
  5. Be an acceptable role model for youth in values and lifestyles in keeping with those ascribed by Burlington.
  6. Must have a valid state issued drivers license and submit to an intensive background investigation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the Residential Therapist of Burlington United Methodist Family Services shall encompass at least the following:

  1. Function as an advocate for each resident.
  2. Maintain therapy sessions a minimum of one time per week or as otherwise indicated on the Treatment Plan with assigned residents. In the event of the therapists absence (i.e. Vacation) arrangements will be made for continued services for residents.
  3. Function as a resource and consultant for the Treatment Associates. Be able to give relevant in-service trainings as needed or requested.
  4. Be a willing and active member of the Multi-Disciplinary Treatment Teams, residential staffing, admission team meetings and cottage meetings.
  5. Convene and facilitate resident therapeutic groups as needed. Assist staff in improving supportive counseling skills.
  6. Provide clinical oversight for Treatment Associates in assigned cottage in accordance with agency's policies and procedures.
  7. Participate in pre-placement and placement processes for new residents.
  8. Respond to call down procedures for emergency interventions (i.e., school, residential unit, runaways, psychiatric, family, etc.) and be on call according to the residential weekly schedule.
  9. Participate in quarterly peer reviews for file maintenance.
  10. Transport and participate in required Court & MDT meetings in cooperation with the case managers.
  11. Complete therapy notes and other relevant individual and group documentation in a timely manner.
  12. Attend all required meetings in agreement with the corresponding treatment.
  13. Maintain assigned client records as directed according to the state of West Virginia Licensing requirements.
  14. Meet weekly with the Director of Clinical Services.
  15. Supports and facilitates positive interaction with others as evidenced by: professional maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
  16. Exhibits effective communication skills including proper use of agency communication systems.
  17. Required driving position
    1. This position is defined as one that will require you to drive a motor vehicle as part of your daily work. This position does allow the employee to drive motor vehicles owned or leased by the agency and to transport employees and residents when and if necessary. Driving in adverse weather conditions is a possibility.
