About the Role

We are hiring a research-heavy Machine Learning Research Scientist / Research Engineer to push the boundaries of 3D computer vision and perception and translate cutting-edge research into real, deployable systems.

This is not research-for-research’s-sake. You will independently design, execute, and analyze ML experiments end-to-end, explore novel hypotheses, and contribute original research that directly shapes the next generation of camera-only perception systems deployed in the real world.

You’ll operate with high autonomy, deep technical ownership, and meaningful impact—working at the intersection of research rigor and applied engineering. Publication opportunities exist and are encouraged where appropriate.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role, not a people management position.


What You’ll Do

  • Own ML research and experimentation end-to-end, from hypothesis formation to conclusions

  • Design, implement, and evaluate models for 3D vision and perception tasks

  • Source, curate, or generate datasets appropriate for geometry-heavy problems

  • Explore and validate novel research directions through disciplined experimentation

  • Translate research insights into practical, deployable perception systems

  • Analyze experimental results rigorously and communicate findings clearly

  • Collaborate with engineers and domain experts to ensure research aligns with real-world constraints

  • Contribute original research with potential for publication and external impact


Must-Have Qualifications

  • 6+ years of hands-on ML research and experimentation
    OR
    0–2 years of industry experience with unusually strong, directly relevant research output

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field

  • PhD-level research quality or equivalent frontier-industry experience

  • Proven ability to own experiments end-to-end, including:

    • Dataset sourcing or generation

    • Model implementation

    • Training and evaluation

    • Results analysis and conclusions

  • Deep familiarity with 3D vision and geometry-heavy domains, such as:

    • Depth estimation

    • Odometry

    • SLAM

    • Multi-view geometry

    • Satellite or image-based matching

  • Strong fluency in modern ML and deep learning research methods

  • Comfortable proposing, testing, and iterating on novel hypotheses

  • Willingness to work on defense-related projects


Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Publications at major ML / AI conferences or equivalent applied research output

  • Active engagement with the ML research community (papers, open source, conferences)

  • Experience with MLOps, experiment tracking, or reproducible research workflows

  • Background in robotics, autonomy, or real-time inference systems

  • Experience with synthetic data generation or large-scale training pipelines
