Senior / Staff Software Engineer

Location: San Francisco, CA (100% Onsite)

Compensation: $200,000 – $300,000 base + meaningful equity

Overview

We are seeking a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to join our founding San Francisco engineering team. This role is designed for builders who thrive in early-stage environments and have a proven track record of owning products end-to-end—from initial concept through scaled production systems.

You will play a critical role in designing and shipping core platform systems while partnering closely with product and leadership to drive measurable business outcomes. The ideal candidate combines strong full-stack engineering fundamentals with a high ownership mentality and a desire to build ambitious, category-defining products.

Key Responsibilities

Own Products End-to-End

• Design, build, and ship core product features from 0→1 and 1→10 stages.

• Own systems across the stack, including architecture, implementation, deployment, and performance optimization.

• Drive features from concept to production while maintaining a strong focus on measurable business impact.

Build Scalable Platform Systems

• Develop and maintain high-performance web and mobile applications.

• Work across the stack using TypeScript/JavaScript, React or React Native, and Node.js or Python.

• Design reliable backend services and APIs that support scalable production environments.

Exercise Strong Technical Judgment

• Make pragmatic engineering decisions balancing speed and rigor.

• Apply appropriate engineering discipline to critical systems such as payments, ledgers, or worker compensation infrastructure.

Operate in a High-Ownership Environment

• Take responsibility for entire systems and outcomes—not just individual tickets.

• Work closely with product leadership to define technical solutions that drive business results.

• Contribute to engineering culture and technical direction within a high-caliber team.

Required Qualifications

• 5–10+ years of professional software engineering experience

• Senior (5+ years) or Staff (7+ years) level engineering experience

• Proven experience building and owning products end-to-end in early-stage engineering teams

• Demonstrated success shipping production web or mobile applications

• Strong full-stack engineering fundamentals including:

  • JavaScript / TypeScript

  • React or React Native

  • Node.js or Python

• Experience working on high-performance teams within startup environments

• Strong ownership mentality with the ability to drive systems from idea to production

• Excellent technical judgment, particularly when balancing speed vs reliability

• Ability and willingness to work in a high-intensity, high-expectation environment

• Ability to work 100% onsite in San Francisco or relocate

• Computer Science or related technical degree from a Top-25 university (required)

Experience with any of the following is strongly valued:

• Matching or recommendation systems (e.g., dating-app style algorithms)

• Marketplace platforms (e.g., Uber, Instacart, DoorDash)

• AI labor platforms (Mercor, Micro1, Ribbon.ai)

• Multi-sided platforms

• Recruiting or HR platforms (Rippling, Deel)

• Building products for non-technical users in complex industries, such as:

  • logistics

  • supply chain

  • healthcare
