Job TypeDirect Hire

Our client needs an MEP Project Manager with a mechanical engineering background in Reston, VA, serving the Washington, DC area. You'll lead mechanical-focused MEP projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and related building systems, from proposal development through construction closeout. It's a hands-on technical leadership role at a national, multidisciplinary architecture, engineering, and development firm, with real ownership of scope, schedule, budget, and quality. If you're a mechanical engineer who likes leading the design and running the project, this is built for you.

What you'll do

  • Manage the full lifecycle of mechanical/MEP projects from proposal through design, construction administration, and closeout.
  • Lead mechanical design for HVAC, plumbing, and related building systems, and review and approve plans, specs, calculations, and engineer's estimates.
  • Build project scopes, work plans, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans, including two- to three-week lookahead schedules.
  • Track budgets, invoices, and financial performance, and head off risks to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Coordinate mechanical design with electrical, structural, architectural, civil/site, and fire protection disciplines.
  • Serve as a key client contact on mechanical engineering matters and lead project meetings.
  • Support business development with proposals, fee estimates, technical narratives, and client presentations.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Electrical Engineering acceptable with strong mechanical/MEP experience).
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible mechanical engineering and project management experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Experience delivering mechanical/MEP projects through construction strongly preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical systems, building codes, zoning, permitting, and approval processes.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple moderate to large projects at the same time.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, working knowledge of AutoCAD, and familiarity with mechanical design and analysis software.

Why this role

  • You'll be the technical lead on mechanical systems and the project manager, not one or the other.
  • Direct client contact and a seat in pursuits, proposals, and interviews.
  • No formal direct reports, but plenty of informal mentoring of junior staff and a voice in knowledge sharing across the Mechanical/MEP team.
  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary work with regular budget and performance reviews alongside firm leadership.
