A high-growth, private-equity–backed building materials leader is seeking a Tax Director to oversee and elevate its corporate tax function. This is a mission-critical role within a complex, multi-entity environment supporting national operations, acquisitions, and long-term financial strategy.

About the Role

The Tax Director will report directly to executive finance leadership and serve as the internal expert across all U.S. federal, state, and local tax matters. This role provides strategic oversight while staying hands-on with compliance, planning, audits, and process enhancements.

You’ll lead a small but impactful tax team and collaborate with cross-functional partners across Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, Legal, and Operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Own all U.S. income tax compliance, reporting, and provisioning

• Lead ASC 740, quarterly & annual tax provision preparation

• Oversee federal, state, and local tax filings across a multi-state footprint

• Manage audits, notices, and tax authority communications

• Drive tax planning strategies related to acquisitions, restructurings, and business initiatives

• Analyze and implement tax law changes and optimize the company’s tax position

• Strengthen internal controls, process documentation, and tax technology systems

• Mentor and develop tax staff while fostering a high-performing, solutions-oriented culture

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MST preferred

• CPA strongly preferred

• 10+ years of progressive tax experience, with a blend of public accounting and in-house

• Strong ASC 740 experience required

• Multi-state corporate tax experience within manufacturing, distribution, or similar industries

• Ability to lead, influence, and communicate across executive and operational teams

• High ownership mindset with a desire to build, improve, and elevate the tax function
