Successful, privately held manufacturer is seeking a Tooling Design Engineer to be responsible for tooling design, capital equipment projects, and assisting with continuous improvement initiatives. As the Tooling Design Engineer, you will report to a Director and will work closely with the Tooling Department Lead. Daily you will be responsible for the following tasks:
End-to-End NPI Ownership: Lead new product introduction from initial RFQ through production launch—evaluating customer 3D models/drawings, defining manufacturing sequences, estimating cycle times, and ensuring overall process capability and quality.
CAD, Tooling & Simulation Design: Create 3D CAD models, tooling, fixtures, and technical documentation while utilizing metal-forming simulation software to validate material flow, blank development, springback, and forming sequences prior to physical build.
Process Development & ERP Management: Establish and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, work centers, standard cycle times, and operational standards within the ERP system to ensure seamless shop-floor execution.
Troubleshooting, Tryouts & Continuous Improvement: Execute hands-on tooling tryouts, perform root-cause analysis, and optimize OEE by systematically reducing scrap, rework, setup times, and downtime.
Capital Equipment & Vendor Management: Scope, cost-justify (ROI), and manage timelines and budgets for major capital equipment purchases while collaborating directly with external vendors from selection through installation.
This is a diverse engineering position that requires qualified candidates to wear multiple hats and be able to support multiple engineering projects simultaneously, at various stages. Candidates must be collaborative and team-oriented. Although most of the time spent is at a desk, individuals should be comfortable in a tool room or on the manufacturing floor. Customer communication is mandatory for this position; professional demeanor is a must. 1. Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
2. Minimum of five years of similar experience in a manufacturing environment

4. Experience determining manufacturability of parts
5. Experience completing the RFQ (request for quotes) process
6. Experience with BOM (bill of material) creation in an ERP system
7. Ability to read blueprints
8. Experience with 2D and/or 3D software
9. Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
