Due to the retirement of a long-term employee, a well-established manufacturer is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer to focus on designing custom equipment based on customer specifications.  Individuals will work with a team of multi-disciplined engineers and will report to the Engineering Lead who has been with the company for almost five years. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
 
  • Lead the design and detailed engineering of sheet metal mechanical components for custom projects
  • Utilize 3D modeling software for comprehensive design tasks, including the development of structures
  • Oversee the timelines of design projects 
  • Support operations once designs are in production, answer technical questions, troubleshoot issues and other questions related to manufacturability
  • Create bill of materials for projects
  • Provide aftermarket support 
  • Finalize design documentation for release to the manufacturing floor
  • Participate in internal meetings and maintain clear, consistent communication with production and sales teams
  • Interface directly with customers throughout the design process to ensure specifications are met
  • Participate in Gemba walks and other continuous improvement activities 
  • Complete additional engineering duties as assigned by management
 
Candidates should enjoy working in a team environment and collaborating with other engineers. REQUIREMENTS for the Mechanical Design Engineer:
1. Minimum of an Associate's degree; a Bachelor's degree is highly preferred 
2. Depending on education, 2-10 years of experience in a similar mechanical design engineering position
3. Experience designing products, components or equipment related to sheet metal, such as fabrication, welding, machining, etc. 
4. Proficiency in utilizing 3D modeling software
5. Mechanical aptitude 
6. Microsoft Office

Skills preferred but NOT required:
1. Experience with SolidWorks 
2. Working knowledge of welding principles 
3. Experience working for an OEM
