Junior Commercial Lines Underwriter

🌍Mississauga- 3 days in office

An excellent opportunity for a Commercial Lines TSR or CSR who is looking to transition from the brokerage environment into an underwriting-focused role with minimal client-facing responsibilities.

My client specializes in underwriting insurance solutions for small to mid-sized commercial businesses and is seeking a Junior Commercial Lines Underwriter to join their experienced and collaborative team. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical knowledge of commercial policies who wants to develop deeper underwriting and risk assessment expertise.  This is a brokerage-owned company.


Key Responsibilities 💼

  • Review and assess new business and renewal applications to evaluate risk acceptability, determine appropriate coverage terms, and calculate premiums in accordance with underwriting guidelines.

  • Analyze risk exposures, loss history, and supporting documentation to make sound underwriting decisions.

  • Ensure underwriting files and documentation are complete, accurate, and compliant with company standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide underwriting guidance and respond to inquiries from brokers and internal team members.
  • Prepare underwriting reports and update rating tools, forms, and documentation as required.

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with brokers while clearly communicating underwriting appetite, risk acceptability, and required conditions.

Ideal Background

  • Experience as a Commercial Lines TSR or CSR with exposure to underwriting principles.

  • Strong understanding of commercial policy wordings, endorsements, and rating fundamentals.

  • Interest in transitioning into a non-client-facing, analytical underwriting role.

  • Able to manage deadlines and work efficiently under pressure.

Compensation & Work Environment

  • Salary range: $50,000 – $65,000, depending on experience.

  • Hybrid schedule: 3 days in office (non-negotiable).
