As an Operational Excellence Engineer, you will drive process safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.  This role involves leading incident investigations, supporting environmental and safety programs, and partnering with cross-functional teams to enhance operational performance.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering (Chemical or Environmental preferred)
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in refining or chemical processing preferred
  • Knowledge of OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA’s Risk Management Program (RMP)
  • Understanding of OSHA safe work practices and industry safety standards
  • Experience leading incident investigations using methodologies such as Cause Mapping or Learning Teams
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other safety regulations; familiarity with refining/petrochemical federal emissions standards (40 CFR 60 subparts) a plus
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and team collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database systems

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to process safety standards
  • Lead major incident investigations and coordinate minor investigations, ensuring timely completion of action items
  • Perform root cause analyses and develop preventive solutions
  • Educate employees on investigation methodologies and best practices
  • Identify, develop, and share best practices and lessons learned across the organization
  • Analyze potential fire, release, explosion, and dispersion scenarios to prevent and mitigate risks
  • Support the design, installation, and maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems
  • Provide engineering support for Management of Change (MOC) processes and conduct Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)
  • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPA)
  • Track and report Operational Excellence KPIs in partnership with program owners
  • Act as an environmental solutions partner, aligning daily operations with environmental performance goals
  • Support Continuous Improvement initiatives arising from incident investigations, compliance audits, and team recommendations
