Safety Specialist*

SUMMARY

The Safety Specialist supports plant health, safety, and environmental programs within an industrial manufacturing facility. This position assists with regulatory compliance, employee training, workplace inspections, incident investigations, and implementation of safety and environmental procedures. The specialist works closely with plant leadership and employees to improve safety performance and reduce workplace risks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support health, safety, and environmental programs, policies, and procedures.
• Assist with compliance with company requirements and local, state, and federal regulations.
• Maintain OSHA records and support required regulatory reporting.
• Provide employee training in workplace safety, fire prevention, and safe handling of chemicals and equipment.
• Coordinate weekly safety meetings, EHS training, and safety communications.
• Conduct plant inspections and identify potential safety and environmental risks.
• Recommend corrective and preventive actions and follow them through completion.
• Participate in root-cause investigations of incidents, injuries, and near misses.
• Support environmental compliance programs and regulatory-agency interaction.
• Assist with workers’ compensation claims.
• Support PSM activities, including Employee Participation, Mechanical Integrity, Management of Change, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
• Conduct job-safety analyses and task assessments.
• Provide occasional evening or weekend support as needed.

EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Health, Safety, Environmental, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• At least five years of health and safety experience in manufacturing, preferably chemical or food processing.
• Working knowledge of OSHA and USEPA regulations affecting industrial chemical operations.
• Experience conducting inspections, training, incident investigations, and compliance audits.
• Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, and training skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to work in an industrial environment and wear required personal protective equipment.
