Our client is a global law firm and has been practicing for over 100 years. They seek a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year associate to join its Bankruptcy Team. (Working hybrid out of their mid-town NYC location).
The ideal candidate will handle consumer and/or commercial bankruptcy matters in the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, providing strategic counsel and effective representation throughout the bankruptcy process.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise clients on bankruptcy options under Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code
- Prepare, review, and file bankruptcy petitions, schedules, statements, motions, and pleadings
- Represent clients at Section 341 meetings, confirmation hearings, and other court appearances
- Appear before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the SDNY and EDNY
- Analyze financial statements, assets, liabilities, income, and creditor claims
- Communicate with trustees, creditors, and opposing counsel to resolve contested matters
- Ensure compliance with federal bankruptcy law, local bankruptcy rules, and New York exemptions
- Manage caseloads efficiently while meeting all court deadlines
- Maintain detailed case records and client communications
- Provide client-focused legal counsel throughout the life of each case
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited top 50 nationally recognized law school
- Prior experience working at one of the AmLaw 200 firms
- Active admission to the New York State Bar (required)
- Admission to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the SDNY and/or EDNY (or eligibility to obtain admission)
- 2-4 years of bankruptcy law experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and New York exemption laws
- Excellent legal writing, advocacy, and negotiation skills
- Ability to manage matters independently and work collaboratively
