Resident Engineer – Bridge Construction (CTDOT)

A well-established multi-disciplinary consulting engineering firm with over 300 employees is seeking a highly qualified Resident Engineer to lead bridge construction or rehabilitation projects in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT).
The firm provides a wide range of consulting services including engineering, construction management, inspection, technology, and environmental services to federal, state, municipal, and private clients.
The Resident Engineer will function as the construction project lead, managing a multidisciplinary team and ensuring all construction activities comply with contract specifications, safety standards, and project schedules.
Key Responsibilities
The Resident Engineer will lead construction oversight activities and manage field operations for CTDOT infrastructure projects.
Primary responsibilities include:
• Lead a team of construction inspectors, office engineers, and support staff
• Ensure project work is completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract specifications
• Ensure compliance with approved safety plans and environmental permits
• Monitor and maintain CPM project schedules and milestones
• Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
• Evaluate contractor pay requisitions and approve payments
• Prepare and negotiate change orders and extra work requests
• Perform engineering cost analysis to support project decisions
• Analyze constructability issues and develop solutions
• Coordinate with contractors and project stakeholders
• Lead project progress meetings and coordination meetings
• Maintain regular communication with the client regarding project status
Minimum Qualifications
General Experience
• Minimum 8 years of experience in civil construction projects
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) registered in Connecticut
• Demonstrated ability to lead CE&I project teams
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, AASHTOWare, and COMPASS
Special Experience
• Minimum 6 years of civil construction field experience
• Minimum 4 years of supervisory experience overseeing field personnel
Substitution Option
• 10 years of related experience in civil construction
• Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification may substitute for PE
Preferred Certifications / Experience
Experience on federally funded transportation projects
Preferred certifications include:
• ACI Certification
• NETTCP Concrete
• NETTCP HMA Paving
• NETTCP Soils & Aggregate
• ATSSA Traffic Control Technician
• OSHA 10 Construction Safety
Additional Requirements
• Must maintain a valid PE or CCM certification
• Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Working Conditions
• Work performed year-round in varying weather conditions
• Occasional evenings and weekend work may be required
