Senior Bridge Engineer

Location: Illinois (Greater Chicago Area)

Compensation: $130,000 – $170,000 per year

An established engineering consulting firm is seeking a Senior Structural / Bridge Engineer to support transportation infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will be a technically strong professional with leadership capabilities and a focus on delivering high-quality engineering solutions for bridge and structural projects across Illinois.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead structural design activities for multiple transportation and bridge projects simultaneously.

• Oversee project scopes, schedules, and budgets while ensuring successful project delivery and client satisfaction.

• Perform structural design for bridges, culverts, and retaining wall systems.

• Develop designs using cast-in-place concrete, precast concrete, and structural steel systems.

• Review shop drawings and coordinate design updates or field modifications when required.

• Ensure quality control procedures are followed and review work completed by other team members.

• Collaborate with internal engineering teams, clients, and regulatory agencies.

• Support efforts to maintain strong client relationships and assist in developing new business opportunities.

Qualifications

• Licensed Structural Engineer (S.E.) in Illinois required.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).

• 8+ years of experience in bridge or structural engineering design.

• Experience with bridge substructure and superstructure design, foundation systems, and structural load rating.

• Familiarity with steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and post-tensioned bridge systems.

• Experience with structural strengthening methods such as fiber-reinforced polymer systems is preferred.

• Experience working with Illinois DOT standards and procedures.

• Prior experience supervising engineering staff or leading technical teams.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with MicroStation.

• Knowledge of structural analysis and design software tools.

• Strong communication skills with excellent attention to detail and quality.
