Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated Bridge and/or Roadway Inspector with 1–9 years of experience to support transportation infrastructure projects throughout Rhode Island.

This role involves field inspection of roadway and bridge construction to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable RIDOT standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for early- to mid-career inspectors looking to grow their expertise in highway and bridge construction inspection while working alongside experienced project teams.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections of roadway, bridge, drainage, and traffic control work

• Monitor contractor activities for compliance with project plans, specifications, and RIDOT standards

• Document daily construction activities, quantities, and contractor performance

• Review materials testing results and verify compliance with quality requirements

• Coordinate with contractors, project managers, and agency representatives

• Maintain detailed field reports, diaries, and photographic documentation

• Verify measurements for contractor pay estimates

• Identify deficiencies and communicate corrective actions

Required Qualifications

• 1–9 years of experience in roadway and/or bridge construction inspection

• Experience working on DOT or public infrastructure projects (RIDOT experience preferred)

• Knowledge of highway construction materials, methods, and equipment

• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications

• Strong written documentation and communication skills

• Valid driver’s license

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Certifications & Skills

(Not required but highly valued)

• NICET – Transportation Construction Inspection (Level I, II, or III)

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30

• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician

• NETTCP Asphalt, Concrete, or Soils Certification

• Erosion & Sediment Control Certification

• Experience with bridge structural elements (steel, concrete, bearings, deck repairs)

• Experience with drainage systems, utility coordination, or traffic management

• Familiarity with electronic inspection reporting systems

• EIT certification (if pursuing engineering licensure)
