Structural and/or Building Inspector

Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified Structural and/or Building Inspector with experience in buildings and facilities construction to support projects throughout Rhode Island.

The ideal candidate will have 1–9+ years of experience performing inspections on commercial, institutional, municipal, healthcare, educational, or industrial facilities.

This position focuses on ensuring structural integrity, code compliance, and construction quality in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable building codes.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections of structural and building construction activities

• Verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and Rhode Island State Building Code

• Inspect concrete, steel, masonry, wood framing, and foundation systems

• Monitor installation of structural components including beams, columns, slabs, walls, and roof systems

• Review shop drawings and submittals as required

• Document daily inspection activities, deficiencies, and corrective actions

• Coordinate with contractors, engineers, architects, and municipal officials

• Verify contractor quantities and progress milestones when required

• Ensure adherence to safety standards and quality control procedures

Required Qualifications

• 1–9+ years of experience in structural or building construction inspection

• Experience with commercial or public facilities construction

• Strong understanding of structural systems (steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, wood framing)

• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and construction documents

• Knowledge of applicable building codes and inspection procedures

• Strong written documentation and communication skills

• Valid driver’s license and ability to work on active construction sites

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Certifications & Skills

(Highly valued but not required)

• ICC Certifications (Building Inspector, Structural Inspector, Commercial Building Inspector)

• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician

• AWS CWI (Certified Welding Inspector)

• NICET (Construction Materials Testing or Structural Steel Inspection)

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30

• NETTCP Concrete Certification

• Experience with facilities renovations and capital improvement projects

• Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems (MEP coordination awareness)

• Experience with public sector projects (State, Municipal, Higher Education)

• EIT or PE (if pursuing engineering licensure track)
