Our client is seeking an experienced VDOT Construction Manager / Senior Construction Inspector to support transportation construction projects throughout Virginia. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on construction professional with strong VDOT roadway, bridge, utility, paving, drainage, MOT, and field documentation experience.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction management, construction inspection, materials testing coordination, field documentation, contractor oversight, and VDOT standards/specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide construction management and inspection support on VDOT roadway, bridge, drainage, utility, paving, and transportation projects.

  • Monitor contractor work for compliance with project plans, specifications, VDOT standards, safety requirements, and contract documents.

  • Review daily construction activities, quantities, materials, schedules, and field progress.

  • Prepare daily inspection reports, project documentation, quantity records, photos, and field notes.

  • Coordinate with contractors, VDOT representatives, engineers, project managers, inspectors, testing labs, and utility representatives.

  • Support materials testing, quality assurance, and project documentation requirements.

  • Identify field issues, document deficiencies, and assist with resolution of construction-related problems.

  • Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, traffic control plans, and construction schedules.

  • Support change order documentation, pay item verification, punch lists, and project closeout activities.

  • Maintain a professional field presence and help ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with VDOT requirements.

Preferred VDOT / Industry Certifications

Candidates with any of the following certifications will receive strong consideration:

  • VDOT Asphalt Field Level I

  • VDOT Asphalt Field Level II

  • VDOT Soils and Aggregate Compaction

  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I

  • VDOT Concrete / concrete testing-related certification

  • VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control

  • VDOT Basic Work Zone Safety

  • Erosion & Sediment Control certification

  • Stormwater Management certification

  • Nuclear Gauge / Radiation Safety training

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30

  • NICET construction materials, highway construction, or transportation-related certifications

Qualifications

  • Experience with VDOT, roadway, highway, bridge, utility, civil site, or transportation construction projects.

  • Strong knowledge of construction inspection, construction documentation, plans, specifications, and field reporting.

  • Ability to read and interpret civil plans, roadway plans, drainage plans, MOT plans, and project specifications.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with contractors, engineers, owners, and field teams.

  • Ability to work independently in the field and manage daily project activity.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.

  • Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related background preferred, but strong field experience will be considered.
