Position Overview

We are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer – Hardware Design to join a fast-paced and dynamic engineering environment. This position requires flexibility to support evolving customer objectives and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional engineering team.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to lead technical projects and mentor other engineering professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform analog and digital design of ruggedized electronics for ordnance applications.

  • Conduct circuit tolerance analyses using hand calculations and SPICE tools.

  • Develop, refine, and ensure compliance with engineering requirements.

  • Create test plans and test reports for product performance, including Brassboard, Design Verification, Qualification, and Firing Properties testing.

  • Lead and direct testing throughout all phases of the product development lifecycle.

  • Lead failure investigations using structured methodologies such as 8D, Fishbone, and Cause & Effect analysis.

  • Prepare materials for and lead design reviews throughout the product development lifecycle.

  • Serve as the primary technical interface for internal and external customers.

  • Provide material and labor estimates for Requests for Proposals (RFPs).

  • Generate Engineering Orders (EOs) and Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).

  • Mentor electrical engineering staff.

  • Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 9+ years of relevant experience.

  • Alternatively, a graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 7+ years of relevant experience.

  • In lieu of a degree, 13+ years of relevant experience.

  • 5+ years of experience designing basic analog circuits, including differential amplifiers, op amps, LDOs, filters, and data converters.

  • 5+ years of experience designing basic digital circuits, including logic gates, flip-flops, timers, and filters.

  • 4+ years of experience with power conversion concepts, including AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC, as well as linear and switching power supplies.

  • 5+ years of experience troubleshooting with standard laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, and meters.

  • 4+ years of experience with schematic capture and/or board layout tools such as Altium or PADS.

  • 4+ years of experience leading large-scale technical projects from start to completion with minimal guidance.

  • 4+ years of experience preparing for and participating in internal and external design reviews.

  • 4+ years of experience creating technical documentation, including test plans, test reports, and engineering drawings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience with temperature sensors, MEMS accelerometers, differential pressure sensors, and gyros.

  • 5+ years of experience with serial communication buses, including UART, SPI, and I²C.

  • 5+ years of experience performing root cause analysis.

  • 4+ years of experience applying electronic design best practices, including EMI suppression, ESD protection, and short-circuit protection.

  • 5+ years of experience with power supply and power conditioning design.

  • 5+ years designing Electronic Safety and Arming Devices (ESADs) and Ignition Safety Devices in accordance with MIL-STD-1316 and MIL-STD-1901A.

  • 5+ years of experience presenting ESAD/ESAF/ISD designs to Safety Review Boards.

  • 3+ years of experience with energetic materials interfacing/testing, including EFDIs, LEEFIs, lead charges, and boosters.

  • 5+ years of experience designing for extreme environments, including vibration, shock, temperature, and temperature/humidity.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.
