Accounting Manager

Jacksonville, FL | Full-Time | Onsite

Our client, a successful and growing privately held organization, is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys developing people, improving processes, and taking ownership of financial reporting in a collaborative environment.

Reporting directly to the Controller, the Accounting Manager will lead the accounting team while assuming ownership of the company's P&L reporting and month-end financial close. This individual will play a key leadership role by mentoring staff, strengthening internal processes, and helping elevate the overall performance of the accounting department.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, coach, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and professional growth.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, workload management, and performance coaching for the accounting team.
  • Assume ownership of the monthly P&L and financial reporting process across multiple product lines, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close process, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
  • Analyze financial results, identify trends and variances, and provide meaningful recommendations to the Controller and executive leadership.
  • Partner with department leaders to improve financial visibility and support operational decision-making.
  • Review account reconciliations, balance sheet activity, and income statement fluctuations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Strengthen internal controls, standardize accounting procedures, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency through process improvements.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and special financial analysis projects.
  • Assist with coordinating annual audit activities and serve as a liaison with external auditors.
  • Support ERP enhancements and system improvements that improve reporting capabilities and departmental efficiency.
  • Serve as the Controller's business partner by assuming increasing responsibility for the day-to-day accounting function and financial reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience managing month-end close and preparing financial statements.
  • Demonstrated success developing, mentoring, and coaching accounting staff.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; ERP experience required.
  • CPA or CPA-track preferred but not required.
  • Experience within a manufacturing, distribution, or multi-entity environment is a plus.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a hands-on leader who enjoys building strong teams just as much as producing accurate financial results. The ideal candidate is someone who naturally coaches and develops others, leads by example, and is ready to become the Controller's trusted second-in-command by taking ownership of the company's P&L reporting and day-to-day accounting operations.

If you are a driven accounting professional looking to advance your career and make a significant impact within an organization, we encourage you to apply.
