Overview
This is a dynamic, high-impact position for an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who enjoys variety, autonomy, and broad clinical responsibility. The APP will support both the 20-bed inpatient acute medical unit and the 6-bed Emergency Department, delivering care across multiple levels of acuity.
This role is ideal for an APP who thrives in a rural hospital environment, enjoys hands-on procedures, and values working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
Position Summary
The Emergency/Hospitalist APP functions as a core member of the inpatient and emergency care teams. Responsibilities include managing emergency department patients, caring for admitted patients across ICU, stepdown, telemetry, medical/surgical, observation, and skilled nursing levels, and performing a range of outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
You will collaborate closely with case management, pharmacy, social work, therapy services, dieticians, nursing staff, and consulting specialists. The APP also responds to rapid responses, emergency C-sections, and provides procedural and clinical support across the hospital.
Key Responsibilities

Provide high-quality care for ED patients and inpatient admissions

Manage ICU, stepdown, telemetry, med/surg, observation, and skilled nursing patients

Perform outpatient and inpatient procedures including:

Lumbar punctures
-
Thoracentesis
-
Paracentesis
-
Nuclear stress test monitoring (cardiology)

Complete history & physicals for non-established infusion clinic patients
-
Respond to rapid responses, emergency C-sections, and clinically urgent situations

Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests

Develop and implement patient-centered treatment plans

Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members (case management, pharmacy, therapy, etc.)

Network with external hospitals and departments to support coordinated care

Provide patient education on disease processes, medications, wellness, nutrition, and self-care

Complete accurate and timely documentation per Medical Staff Rules, Regulations, and Bylaws

Demonstrate safe work practices and adherence to all hospital policies

Maintain flexibility with scheduling as department needs evolve
Qualifications
Experience
-
Minimum: 2 years of Hospitalist or acute care experience

Preferred: 3+ years of Hospitalist experience
Education

Required: Master of Science in Nursing (NP) or Master’s-level Physician Assistant degree

Preferred: Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
