Plant Maintenance Mechanic

Location: Greater Cincinnati Area
Industry: Food Manufacturing
Schedule: Second or Third Shift

Position Overview

A well-established food manufacturer is seeking an experienced Plant Maintenance Mechanic to support its high-volume processing and packaging operations. This individual will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production and facility equipment to maximize safety, reliability, quality, and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate will bring strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities and be comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair processing, packaging, and facility equipment.

  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and recommend updates to improve equipment reliability.

  • Complete work orders and coordinate with the parts department to ensure required materials are available.

  • Initiate maintenance requests when repairs cannot be completed immediately.

  • Partner with operators, production leaders, and technical team members to resolve equipment issues.

  • Participate in root-cause analysis following major equipment failures or production downtime.

  • Restore equipment to original operating specifications whenever possible.

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and other technical documentation.

  • Safely operate maintenance tools, testing equipment, and machinery.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, productivity, and equipment performance.

  • Participate in technical training, team meetings, and plant improvement activities.

  • Follow all company safety, housekeeping, food safety, and regulatory requirements.

  • Provide technical guidance or coaching to operators and other team members when appropriate.

  • Perform additional responsibilities based on operational needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Two years of technical or skilled-trades training preferred.

  • Two to five years of industrial maintenance experience preferred.

  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and general equipment troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience supporting manufacturing, processing, or packaging equipment.

  • Ability to use structured problem-solving and analytical troubleshooting methods.

  • Machining or fabrication experience is a plus.

  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.

  • Ability to establish priorities and work effectively in a team-based environment.

  • Comfortable using computers and computerized maintenance systems.

  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.

Schedule and Physical Requirements

  • Must be available to work second or third shift.

  • Overtime, weekends, and extended hours may be required based on production needs.

  • Must be willing to train on production equipment and support operations when necessary.

  • Must meet the facility’s attendance and reliability expectations.

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work from platforms or elevated areas.

  • Ability to stand and walk for at least 70% of the shift.

  • Ability to work around production equipment and on concrete flooring.

  • Ability to safely lift and move materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
