Our client is a national leader in commercial laundry and textile services with production facilities that operate similarly to other manufacturing plants. This role provides enterprise-wide safety leadership across seven sites throughout the USA, supporting both regulatory compliance and operational risk reduction.

Job Summary:
The Director of Safety and OSHA Compliance oversees multi-site safety strategy and execution across seven production facilities, operating at the intersection of regulatory defense, operational risk management, and executive leadership. This role serves as the primary corporate contact for OSHA activity, builds and standardizes core safety programs, leads audits and investigations, and drives measurable improvements in safety performance metrics. The ideal candidate is a credible, hands-on safety leader who can influence plant leadership and frontline teams while maintaining strong technical command of Federal OSHA and state-plan requirements.

Duties:

  • Drive a shift from reactive compliance to behavior-based safety across the organization
  • Ensure all seven facilities meet Federal OSHA standards and applicable state-plan regulations
  • Serve as the primary corporate point of contact for OSHA visits, informal conferences, citations, and formal appeals across all sites
  • Establish and maintain company-wide safety programs including SDS, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and confined space
  • Conduct comprehensive, unannounced safety audits during facility visits to identify physical hazards, procedural gaps, and recordkeeping issues
  • Spend dedicated time on production floors partnering with plant managers, line supervisors, and safety committees to build a proactive safety culture
  • Lead on-site investigations for major incidents, near-misses, and lost-time injuries; implement Corrective and Preventive Actions
  • Standardize onboarding safety training, supervisor training, and required annual OSHA certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30-hour instruction, forklift training)
  • Oversee noise sampling, air quality monitoring, chemical exposure assessments, and ergonomic evaluations in manufacturing environments
  • Design, test, and implement site-specific Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for fires, severe weather, and hazardous material spills
  • Track, analyze, and report key safety metrics including TRIR, DART, and Severity Rates to executive leadership
  • Partner with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and HR to manage claims, reduce claim costs, and support Return-to-Work / Modified Duty programs

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of progressive safety leadership experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or heavy production environment
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline)
  • Demonstrated experience managing safety programs, audits, and compliance across multiple geographic locations (multi-plant operations)
  • Deep technical knowledge of Federal OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910 – General Industry) and state-plan variants (e.g., Cal/OSHA)
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% nationwide across seven facilities (including overnight travel)
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) strongly preferred
  • CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) is a plus
  • OSHA Trainer certification is a plus
  • Ability to gain buy-in for safety protocols with plant managers, shift supervisors, and union/non-union production teams
