Workers' Compensation Defense Associate
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Civil Litigation & Case Management:

Manage civil litigation matters from inception through resolution.

Handle matters involving Professional Liability, Tort and Liability Defense, and Workers' Compensation.

Manage assigned caseloads while working collaboratively with partners and senior attorneys.
-
Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, legal memoranda, status reports, and other litigation documents.
-
Conduct legal research to support litigation strategy and case development.
-
Monitor case deadlines and ensure timely completion of litigation activities.
-
Maintain organized case files and documentation throughout the litigation process.
Discovery, Depositions & Courtroom Litigation:
-
Respond to discovery requests and assist with all phases of the discovery process.
-
Prepare for and participate in depositions, hearings, and trials.
-
Take and defend fact witness and expert witness depositions.
-
Draft and argue dispositive motions.
-
Prepare litigation materials and support effective case presentation.
-
Represent and advocate for clients in New Hampshire state and federal courts.
-
Ensure compliance with court rules, deadlines, and scheduling requirements.
Legal Research & Client Collaboration:
-
Conduct in-depth legal research and prepare memoranda to support case strategy.
-
Communicate regularly with clients regarding case status, developments, and litigation strategy.

Prepare interim status reports and provide clear legal updates to clients.
-
Collaborate with partners, senior attorneys, experts, clients, and legal support staff to develop effective litigation strategies.

Maintain professional and responsive client relationships.

Contribute to a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive team environment while independently managing assigned matters.
Professional Development & Additional Responsibilities:

Take meaningful responsibility for assigned litigation matters under the guidance of experienced attorneys.

Develop litigation, advocacy, legal research, writing, deposition, and courtroom skills through hands-on experience.

Work alongside experienced attorneys on diverse and challenging civil litigation matters.

Maintain compliance with firm policies, court rules, and applicable ethical standards.

Contribute to the firm's commitment to professional growth, collaboration, and high-quality legal service.

Perform additional duties and assignments as required to support business needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school required.
-
Active admission to the New Hampshire State Bar required.
-
Minimum of one (1) year of prior civil litigation experience required; 1–3 years preferred.

Experience practicing in both New Hampshire state and federal courts.
-
Experience handling Professional Liability, Tort and Liability Defense, and/or Workers' Compensation matters preferred.

Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
-
Experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery requests, legal memoranda, and status reports.

Ability to draft and argue dispositive motions.
-
Experience taking and defending fact witness and expert witness depositions.
-
Ability to respond to discovery requests and manage litigation deadlines.
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and priorities.

Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative legal team.
