Controller (Multi-Company Manufacturing)
Our client is a national leader in commercial laundry and textile services and their facilities operate similar to other manufacturing plants. This role supports a complex, multi-entity environment and requires strong financial leadership, accurate reporting, and disciplined controls. This position works on-site daily in Far Rockaway, NY.
Job Summary:
The Controller is a hands-on finance leader responsible for multi-company accounting operations, consolidation and intercompany reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and management reporting. This role will oversee day-to-day accounting functions while driving process improvements, strengthening internal controls, and delivering clear KPI and financial reporting to leadership. The ideal candidate has strong manufacturing accounting experience, thrives in a fast-paced operational environment, and can manage complexity across multiple companies and holding entities. Reports to the CFO/COO.
Duties:
- Lead intercompany and multi-company reporting, including combined financials and high-volume intercompany transactions
- Plan, direct, and coordinate all accounting operational functions
- Coordinate and prepare internal and external financial statements
- Coordinate activities of external auditors and support audit readiness
- Manage the budgeting process and support forecasting and planning activities
- Assess current accounting operations, recommend improvements, and implement new processes
- Evaluate accounting systems and internal control environments; strengthen controls as needed
- Develop and monitor business performance metrics and report daily and weekly KPIs
- Oversee regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance as needed
- Create reporting packages for management and support leadership decision-making
- Hire, train, and retain a small accounting staff; provide ongoing coaching and performance management
Requirements:
- 5+ years of relevant experience as a Controller (or similar) in a manufacturing environment
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in Accounting or Finance)
- MBA preferred
- CMA strongly preferred (Certified Management Accountant)
- CPA is a plus but not required
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley
- Ability to understand and implement internal controls
- Excellent Excel skills and strong overall software/technology proficiency
- Strong communication, analytical, and people management skills
