We have partnered closely with a rapidly scaling, private equity-backed orthopedic specialty platform to secure a dynamic commercial growth leader. We are currently seeking a motivated, relationship-driven Director of Physician Development to spearhead the expansion of their value-based care and bundled payment platform across the New England region.
This is a ground-floor "hunter" opportunity ideal for an experienced healthcare sales or business development professional who excels at opening doors, building trust with orthopedic surgeons, and navigating complex commercial deals. You will serve as the primary catalyst for market growth, identifying target practices, engaging decision-makers, and guiding surgeons through contract execution and operational onboarding.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, prioritize, and target high-volume orthopedic surgeons and private practices across New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine, and Massachusetts using market data, due-diligence lists, and personal networks.
- Initiate contact, navigate office gatekeepers, and build high-trust relationships with key surgeons, practice administrators, and clinical leaders.
- Articulate the financial and clinical benefits of the platform's bundled payment model, clearly communicating how participating surgeons can materially optimize their surgical economics and practice autonomy.
- Qualify target practices based on surgical volume, payer mix, clinical alignment, and readiness for value-based care partnerships.
- Manage the complete commercial lifecycle from initial contact through contract signature, collaborating closely with internal clinical and executive leadership to close partnerships.
- Assist signed surgeons through the launch phase, serving as the critical bridge between clinical partners and the internal MSO and operations teams.
- Maintain rigorous CRM tracking, report on pipeline health to executive leadership, and represent the organization at regional healthcare and orthopedic industry conferences.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of proven success in a physician-facing business development, commercial sales, or practice growth role within the healthcare industry.
- Pre-existing relationships with orthopedic surgeons, practice managers, or surgical groups in New England (NH, CT, ME, and/or MA) strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to independently prospect, overcome gatekeeper barriers, and advance multi-stakeholder healthcare deals.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex bundled payment economics, value-based care models, and clinical protocols into compelling conversations for surgeons.
- Comfortable operating autonomously in an agile, high-accountability environment with a strong self-starter mindset.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout the New England region.
Strongly Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in orthopedic medical device sales (e.g., Stryker, Zimmer Biomet, DePuy Synthes, Smith & Nephew)
- Direct familiarity with value-based care structures, bundled payment models, or BPCI-Advanced initiatives
- Experience operating within a PE-backed healthcare platform, Management Services Organization (MSO), or Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) management environment
Benefits:
- Uncapped Performance Commission: Structured around qualified meetings, signed contracts, and operational surgeon launches with uncapped earning potential.
- 3-Month Draw Against Commission: Guaranteed income stability during initial territory ramp-up.
- Travel Compensation: Comprehensive car allowance and fully covered regional travel expenses.
- 100% employer-covered health insurance premiums for full-time staff
- Short-Term Disability (STD), Long-Term Disability (LTD), and Life Insurance eligibility after 3 months of employment
- 401(k) plan available after 1 year of service, featuring pre-tax and/or IRA contribution options, plus a 3% direct company salary contribution
- 80 hours of allocated PTO annually for new hires (reviewed at 3–5 year service milestones)
- Paid Holidays: 6 dedicated paid holidays per year (separate from PTO):
- New Year’s Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day (July 4th)
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day + Day After Thanksgiving
- Christmas Day
Note on Compensation & Hiring Requirements: Final base salary and overall financial package will be verified and determined by the organization based on your documented years of market experience, network reach, and demonstrated sales track record. All job offers are strictly contingent upon the successful completion of standard background and credentialing checks.
