Civil Engineer - Transportation
IDj-3419
Job TypeDirect Hire
Compensation$104700 - $143000 / yr
Some of the best transportation engineers we know didn't take a straight line to get here. They've stood on job sites, inspected work in progress, or spent years on the agency side before ever touching a design file. That range of experience is exactly what a growing team in the Rochester area is looking for right now, and it's treated as an asset from day one, not something to leave off the resume.
Why this role stands out:
- Utilization here is realistic, not aspirational — engineers actually have room for a life outside the office
- A firm small enough that good work gets noticed and rewarded, not lost in a big-firm shuffle
- Meaningful work rooted in county and municipal projects that shape the communities they're built in
- Field and agency experience is treated as a real asset here
What you'll be doing:
- Leading design development from preliminary through final plans on roadway and highway projects
- Managing scope, schedule, budget, and plan production as technical lead
- Coordinating across disciplines — structures, signalization, environmental/permitting, utilities, survey, and right-of-way
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineering staff
- Providing quality assurance and quality control on engineering deliverables
- Building client relationships and contributing to proposal development
What we're looking for:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
- Experience in transportation design, project management, and/or construction inspection — public agency or consulting background welcome
- NYS Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, not required
- Familiarity with MicroStation, OpenRoads, or Civil 3D a plus
- Someone who's ready to bring what they know from the field or from agency work into a firm where that perspective is valued
