Payroll Specialist

Location: Columbus, Ohio

M-Team Solutions is recruiting for a Payroll Specialist for a direct-hire opportunity with a leading automotive automation and material handling company in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

We are seeking a detail-oriented payroll professional to support the accurate and timely processing of payroll for 400+ employees across multiple business locations. This position will work under the direction of the Payroll Supervisor and support weekly, biweekly, and monthly payroll processing, timecard reconciliation, payroll reporting, employee deductions, general ledger activities, and payroll compliance.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong payroll experience who is highly organized, analytical, comfortable working with numbers and systems, and able to communicate effectively with employees and internal departments.

Responsibilities

  • Process accurate and timely payroll for employees across multiple locations and pay cycles, including weekly, biweekly, and monthly payroll

  • Review and reconcile employee timecards and payroll data

  • Support payroll processing for domestic and multi-state operations

  • Review payroll reports from third-party agencies

  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records

  • Compile and process payroll data, including:

    • Garnishments

    • Vacation and paid time off

    • Insurance deductions

    • 401(k) contributions

    • Other employee deductions and special pay structures

  • Review and approve payroll deductions and payroll data transfers

  • Ensure appropriate withholding of payroll taxes, Social Security contributions, benefit deductions, and other required deductions

  • Prepare payroll reports and support compliance with federal and state tax withholding requirements

  • Balance and post payroll journal entries and resolve discrepancies

  • Prepare account reconciliations and provide general ledger support

  • Prepare and review monthly general ledger journal entries

  • Assist with monthly accounting close activities

  • Balance W-2 information and payroll taxes

  • Prepare fringe benefit reports

  • Partner with Corporate Treasury to prepare wire transfer documentation and monitor timely bank transactions

  • Provide payroll reports and ad hoc analysis to leadership

  • Support internal audits and SOX/JSOX compliance processes

  • Interpret company policies and government regulations related to payroll procedures

  • Respond to employee payroll questions and help facilitate employee understanding of payroll procedures

  • Stay current on payroll laws and regulations

  • Collaborate with employees, management, accounting, and other internal departments

  • Assist with additional projects and responsibilities as needed

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of progressively responsible payroll processing experience

  • Experience supporting payroll for a high-volume or multi-location organization preferred

  • Multi-state payroll experience preferred

  • Strong understanding of payroll processing, employee deductions, taxes, garnishments, and benefit contributions

  • Experience with payroll systems and payroll reporting

  • ADP Workforce Now experience preferred

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel

  • Experience with general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and/or month-end close activities preferred

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

  • Comfortable communicating with employees and management at all levels

Education

  • Associate degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant work experience

Preferred Background

  • Experience in a manufacturing, automotive, material handling, or similar environment is preferred but not required

  • Previous experience supporting SOX or JSOX compliance and internal audits is a plus
