Structural Steel Engineer, P.E.
We are seeking a Structural Steel Engineer (preferably a P.E. licensed in Indiana) to design and support structural steel systems for industrial and manufacturing projects, including production facilities, conveyor and equipment support structures, mezzanines, platforms, pipe racks, and building expansions. This role works closely with fabricators, detailers, and project teams to deliver safe, code-compliant, and constructible steel designs. This is a 6-9 month hybrid contract assignment working in the greater Fort Wayne, IN area.
The ideal candidate has experience supporting industrial plants, manufacturing facilities, or heavy structural steel projects and is comfortable working in fast-paced, schedule-driven environments.
Structural Design & Analysis
- Design and analyze structural steel systems for:
- Industrial buildings and plant expansions
- Conveyor and equipment support structures
- Mezzanines, platforms, stairs, and handrails
- Pipe racks and process structures
- Perform structural calculations in accordance with:
- AISC Steel Construction Manual
- ASCE 7 load requirements
- Applicable building codes and client standards
- Design and review:
- Steel framing layouts
- Connection concepts and details
- Coordinate designs with:
- Mechanical, conveyor, and process equipment
- Foundations and civil layouts
Project & Construction Support
- Support projects from concept through fabrication and erection
- Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs
- Collaborate with fabricators to ensure constructability and efficiency
- Support field issues, modifications, and retrofits
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering
- 3+ years’ experience in structural steel design for industrial or manufacturing projects
- Working knowledge of:
- AISC steel design standards
- Structural load paths and framing systems
- Experience with structural analysis software (RAM, RISA, SAP2000, STAAD, or similar)
- Ability to interpret fabrication and erection requirements
- Strong communication and coordination skills
Preferred Qualifications
- PE license
- Experience supporting:
- Manufacturing plants
- Conveyor and material handling structures
- Heavy industrial steel
- Familiarity with steel detailing and fabrication workflows
- Experience working directly with fabricators and erectors
