About the Opportunity

M-Team Solutions is representing a leading provider of automated material handling and factory automation systems in the search for a Mechanical Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career mechanical engineer to gain hands-on experience designing, estimating, detailing, and supporting complex material handling systems used in automotive manufacturing environments.

The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with customers, suppliers, manufacturing teams, project engineers, and field personnel to develop reliable and cost-effective conveyor and material handling solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineering & Design

  • Design, develop, and detail mechanical components, equipment, machinery, and material handling systems.
  • Apply engineering principles to the design, fabrication, installation, operation, application, and repair of mechanical systems.
  • Design and detail mechanical conveyor components using AutoCAD and/or Inventor.
  • Design and detail structural steel support systems for material handling equipment.
  • Prepare and modify engineering drawings, including dimensions, bills of material, and standard drawing revisions.
  • Interface with fabrication and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and meet project requirements.
  • Support field modifications, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Conduct plant and construction-site field inspections.
  • Order, track, and coordinate materials required for onsite activities.
  • Communicate with customers, vendors, and internal departments as required.

Applications Engineering & Estimating

  • Perform engineering studies to develop reliable, efficient, and cost-effective material handling systems based on engineering practices and customer requirements.
  • Assist with the design and development of conveyor systems and equipment.
  • Prepare cost estimates for mechanical and structural components associated with material handling installations.
  • Assist sales and technical teams with bid proposal development.
  • Review customer requirements and translate them into functional technical specifications.
  • Evaluate alternative material handling solutions to identify opportunities for cost reduction and value engineering.
  • Prepare technical presentations and communicate material handling solutions to customer engineering teams.
  • Assist with supplier evaluations and sourcing activities.
  • Visit customer facilities for pre-bid investigations and proposal development.
  • Work with automotive manufacturing customers and their engineering teams to understand system requirements and specifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • 0–2 years of mechanical engineering and/or design experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD required.
  • Experience with Inventor or another 3D CAD system preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical systems, including motors, chains, conveyors, and related equipment.
  • Familiarity with structural steel materials such as beams, channels, and angles.
  • Understanding of steel fabrication, machining, and welding practices preferred.
  • Knowledge of material handling systems, mechanical design, and/or steel design preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with MS Project preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and fabrication documentation.
  • Basic understanding of hardware specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, processes, quality requirements, inspection practices, and measurement techniques is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, peers, and management.
  • Ability to travel to customer and construction sites as required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position may require work in an office, manufacturing, and construction-site environments. Candidates must be able to:

  • Travel as required for customer visits, field inspections, installations, and commissioning activities.
  • Work in an open-office environment.
  • Climb ladders and scaffolding when required.
  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Work occasional nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on project and customer requirements.
  • Provide onsite support during installations, modifications, and commissioning activities.
