Cost Accounting Manager – Confidential Search
Our client, a leading manufacturing and distribution company, is seeking a Cost Accounting Manager to join their growing Finance team!
This newly created position will serve as a key driver of financial accuracy and operational insight across the business.
The successful candidate will oversee all cost accounting functions, focusing on product costing, inventory valuation, and comprehensive variance analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain cost accounting frameworks that strengthen internal controls
- Maintain adherence to U.S. GAAP principles and regulatory requirements
- Continuously refine procedures to accommodate operational changes, system updates, and evolving regulations
- Lead product cost accumulation, analysis, and reporting initiatives that inform executive decision-making
- Build and maintain inventory valuation models; refresh standard cost structures and conduct profitability assessments including purchase price and absorption variance studies
- Deliver regular executive briefings on product costs, variance trends, and margin performance
- Direct inventory accuracy programs including cycle counting, physical inventories, efficiency studies, and account reconciliations
- Maintain data integrity within the ERP system (SAP); verify procurement data accuracy and cost allocations
- Function as the technical expert for SAP and collaborate with operational and project teams to drive system optimization
- Deliver financial expertise and counsel to operational departments across the supply chain
- Own the manufacturing budgeting process and provide resolution support for multiple facilities
- Drive improvements in cost monitoring, financial reporting, and ERP platform effectiveness
- Facilitate audit processes and provide knowledge transfer on cost accounting methodologies and cost behavior
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting within manufacturing or distribution environments
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; CPA certification is preferred
- Deep expertise in cost accounting principles, inventory methodologies, and GAAP standards
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities with meticulous accuracy
- Track record of successfully managing competing priorities in dynamic business settings
- Outstanding communication abilities with skill in translating complex financial concepts
- Independent self-starter who thrives in both autonomous and collaborative environments
- Natural curiosity and commitment to ongoing improvement
- Strong command of Microsoft Excel and Office applications
- Expert-level proficiency in SAP; comfortable working with complex datasets
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with business intelligence platforms
- International or multi-entity operational experience
- Background in coaching others on cost accounting principles or system functionality
