Mechanical Drafter (SolidWorks) — Custom Conveyor Manufacturing

Position summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Drafter proficient in SolidWorks to produce accurate 2D drawings and 3D models for custom conveyor systems, components, and assemblies. The ideal candidate will translate engineering concepts and field measurements into production-ready drawings, support fabrication and procurement, and work closely with engineers, project managers, and shop personnel. Strong SolidWorks skills and mechanical drafting experience in a manufacturing or material-handling environment are required.
Key responsibilities:
- Create and maintain 3D models and 2D fabrication/assembly drawings in SolidWorks to support custom conveyor projects
- Convert customer specifications, sketches, and field measurements into complete, accurate, and manufacturable drawings
- Check and revise drawings to incorporate engineering changes and field revisions
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, fabricators, and vendors to resolve design or manufacturing issues
- Ensure drawings comply with company standards, tolerances, and applicable codes
- Support estimating and quoting by providing preliminary layouts or part-level takeoffs when needed
- Participate in design reviews and assist with documentation control and project recordkeeping
Required qualifications
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (modeling, assemblies, drawing creation and detailing)
- 2+ years of mechanical drafting experience in manufacturing, material handling, conveyors, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, welding/fabrication practices, and standard mechanical components
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications
- Good attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to meet project deadlines
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Preferred qualifications:
- Familiarity with conveyor components (belts, rollers, motors, gearboxes, controls) and material handling layout principles
- Experience with PDM/PLM systems and BOM management
- Knowledge of GD&T and dimensional inspection practices
