Mechanical Drafter / Designer

Position Purpose:

The purpose of this role is to create, prepare, and document designs for existing and new projects and products.

Essential Functions:

Preparation/Creation of Designs

• Create designs that satisfy the product requirements as outlined in the product specification and resolve design problems.
• Prepare drawings to support the sales team of various structures and equipment derived from layouts and sketches; follow established technical specifications to prepare drawing.
• Prepare Assembly drawings, Bill of Materials; modify drawings, and Process Engineering Change Orders.
• Work with others on new products to design and document new product offerings.

Design Documentation

• Document designs for existing and new products for Range Systems and coordinate with other departments to ensure that design input requirements are identified and documented, and that design output is verified and validated against customer requirements. Resolve incomplete, ambiguous, or conflicting requirements with those responsible for imposing these requirements.

Process Improvement

• Review and/or revise work to ensure accuracy of spelling, drawing format and organization, dimension and tolerance convention, and conformance with other governing Engineering standards.
• Ensure appropriate document control, pertinent issues of appropriate documents are available, and invalid or obsolete documents are removed, marked, and safeguarded against unintentional use.
• Specify components and manage the overall cost of products while meeting the performance and other requirements.

Miscellaneous

• Understand the strategy, vision and expansion model of the organization including a basic understanding of Range System’s business; be aware of and help to enforce organizational policies and best practices procedures.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed or directed by management.

Required Skills / Abilities:

• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures used in drafting and design.
• Working knowledge of Weld Callouts, Dimensioning and Tolerancing of parts, and assemblies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Outlook, Excel, and Word
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to problem solve.
• Excellent conceptual thinking skills and the ability to identify and analyze complex issues, problems, and to recommend and/or implement solutions.
• Ability to listen and communicate clearly, fluently, and diplomatically orally and in writing in the English language; also, to maintain excellent interpersonal and cooperative relationships with management, staff, and clients.
• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and accurately follow through on work activities with time constraints and interruptions to meet deadlines as well as to work independently with a minimum amount of direction and/or supervision.

Education / Experience:

• Associate Degree in Mechanical Drafting and Design with min. 3 years’ experience using Solid Works and AutoCAD. Prefer experience with PDM, metal products, and someone that is a Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSPW).
• Strong mechanical background a plus, also understanding of fabrication processes
