Service Technician (Stainless & Food Process Equipment)

As a Service Technician you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of stainless steel process equipment for specialized sanitary machinery used in industries like food, dairy, beverage, and pharmaceutical processing. This role involves hands-on mechanical work, often in the field, focusing on maintaining the integrity of stainless steel components, pumps, valves, and piping systems to meet high-sanitary standards. 30% travel for service and new equipment installation. When not traveling, machine build/assembly, inspection, and testing, along with maintaining shop equipment. 50% service work, 50% new equipment install.

Core Responsibilities

  • Installation & Startup: Installing, commissioning, and testing new stainless steel process equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintenance & Repair: Performing preventative and emergency maintenance on processing equipment, including sanitary pumps, valves, piping, and tanks.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnosing mechanical, and sometimes basic electrical, issues in the field to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Fabrication & Welding: Performing sanitary welding (TIG/SMAW), grinding, polishing, and pipe fitting as needed.
  • Customer Support: Providing technical guidance to customers and responding to service calls.
  • Documentation: Maintaining accurate service logs, work orders, and maintenance reports.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensuring all work adheres to safety regulations, including OSHA and specific site safety requirements.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 3–5+ years of experience in maintenance or production, preferably in food, beverage, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and mechanical drawings. Knowledge of stainless steel fabrication techniques is highly desirable.
  • Tools: Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring tools, and specialized equipment for testing and calibration.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in strenuous positions (bending, kneeling, stooping).
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree in industrial maintenance is a plus.
  • Logistics: Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently for on-site service calls.

Key Working Conditions

  • This role often requires significant travel, including overnight, and potentially weekend/holiday hours.
  • Work environments can include exposure to temperature extremes, noise, and high-hygiene (sanitary) areas.

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour

Must be able to pass random drug and alcohol screenings, sometimes prior to job site visits driven by customer requirements (including for THC).
