Operational Technology (OT) System Administrator - Emerson DeltaV

Maderra Personnel is currently seeking a qualified individual for the position of Operational Technology (OT) System Administrator - Emerson DeltaV in Northern Alberta.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Operational Technology (OT) System Administrator to support and maintain the Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control System (DCS) and associated Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure at a Northern Alberta SAGD facility.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and availability of the DeltaV control system and supporting OT environment. Working on a 7 days on / 7 days off rotation, you will collaborate closely with Operations, Instrumentation, Automation, and Maintenance teams to support safe and reliable plant operations.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain the Emerson DeltaV DCS infrastructure, including ProPlus, Application Stations, Operator Stations, Domain Controllers, Continuous Historians, and Batch servers (where applicable).
• Maintain and support DeltaV system health, diagnostics, backups, and system integrity.
• Perform DeltaV software upgrades, hotfix installations, workstation deployments, and system patching in accordance with site procedures.
• Support Management of Change (MOC) activities for DeltaV hardware, software, and control strategies.
• Administer Windows Server operating systems, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and user account management within the OT environment.
• Maintain VMware virtual infrastructure supporting DeltaV servers and applications.
• Support industrial network infrastructure, including managed switches, firewalls, and network segmentation.
• Monitor OT cybersecurity, antivirus, system performance, backups, and disaster recovery readiness.
• Troubleshoot DeltaV hardware, software, communications, and network-related issues.
• Coordinate planned outages, system maintenance, and upgrades with Operations and Engineering.
• Maintain system documentation, architecture drawings, asset inventories, and backup records.
• Support third-party system integrations, including PLCs, OPC communications, historians, package equipment, and interface servers.
• Participate in after-hours support and emergency troubleshooting during scheduled rotations.

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Automation, Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience supporting Emerson DeltaV systems in an operating industrial facility.
• Strong knowledge of DeltaV architecture and system administration.
• Experience with DeltaV upgrades, system backups, disaster recovery, and workstation deployments.
• Experience administering Windows Server, Active Directory, VMware, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
• Familiarity with industrial Ethernet networking and OT cybersecurity best practices.
• Experience working within Management of Change (MOC) processes.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
• Ability to work a 7 days on /7 days off rotational schedule in Northern Alberta.

• Industrial cybersecurity (ISA/IEC 62443)
• Disaster recovery planning and system lifecycle management

• Emerson DeltaV System Administration
• Emerson DeltaV Maintenance or Implementation Training
• VMware VCP
• Microsoft Windows Server Administration
